Echauffement

Instructions

Spider exercises help develop finger independence, left/right hand synchronization, and are also an excellent way to warm up or start a practice session.

The first exercise focuses on finger independence.

Make sure to move only the finger whose note is being picked, keeping the other fingers in place on the frets.

The second exercise will help you work on string skipping to gain precision with the right hand.

You should quickly get used to the small movements and gain more flexibility in your left hand. Keep in mind that the benefits of this type of exercise will show up in many other techniques (chord changes, rhythm, sweep picking, arpeggio playing...).

Work with a metronome and only speed up once you feel comfortable and are no longer making mistakes.
