Rhythm exercise #1
Instructions
This exercise will help you work on rhythm, consistency, and to a lesser extent finger dexterity.
The first part is a series of chromatic notes played as quarter notes, then eighth notes, triplets and sixteenth notes.
As a reminder:
- A quarter note is worth 1 beat
- An eighth note is worth 1/2 beat - 2 notes per beat
- A triplet is worth 1/3 of a beat - 3 notes per beat
- A sixteenth note is worth 1/4 of a beat - 4 notes per beat
The second part will help you get comfortable switching between rhythms, with a sequence of eighth notes and triplets.
Use the video to understand the exercise and get familiar with the beats. It can help to play along with the video if you don't have much rhythmic training.
Start slowly and use the metronome.
Exercice 1
Practicing with the metronome and alternate picking is strongly recommended... actually, mandatory.
Exercice 2
As with exercise 1, practicing with the metronome and alternate picking is recommended, though not mandatory! The switches between eighth notes and triplets aren't easy, but stick with it (play along with the video if needed).
