Why learn the notes on the fretboard?

Knowing the guitar fretboard by heart means instantly knowing which note sits on every fret. It is the foundation for improvising, finding a scale in any key, building your own chord voicings and reading music without searching.

Neck Quiz offers four exercises: name the note shown on the neck, recognise the interval between two notes, find every position of a note, and build a chord from its formula. “Mix” mode alternates all four.

How to improve

Start at Beginner level (frets 0 to 5, natural notes, major and minor chords), then move to Intermediate (the whole neck up to fret 12, sharps and flats, seventh chords) and finally Advanced (up to fret 15, compound intervals and extended chords).

One or two rounds of 10 questions a day are enough: the results table keeps every attempt, and once you regularly score 8/10 you can move up a level. To go further, explore scales and arpeggios with the interactive fretboard and train your ear with Perfect Pitch.
